Hi there folks! It’s not often you get to play guitar on a major film soundtrack. Well over the past couple of weeks I’ve been fortunate enough to be working on some of the score for the new James Bond film ‘The Quantum of Solice’.

Been a while since I’ve posted. Been pretty busy with work. Been doing some pretty cool projects, tell you more about that in a later post.
Anyway MusicPlayer.com has a great set of interviews with the awesome Chris Poland. This guy is a great guitarist with a really unique style and sound. If your not familiar with Chris’ work he used to play in Megadeth and currently plays in a band called OHM. His bending and vibrato techniques are totally cool. If your into fusion guitar this could be the guitarist for you!!

Just on the train coming back from a week in Newcastle where I’ve been doing the International Guitar Foundations ‘Rock the North’ youth rock camp at the wonderful Sage in Gateshead. Just under 100 enthusiastic kids between 10 and 18 turned up for a week of lessons and group workshops which ended with a full on concert in Hall 2 at the Sage.

Here’s a quick Brent Mason style country lick for you. It starts out with a rather nifty open string run. I’ve played around with these for a while and you can get some pretty cool ideas going with this technique.
The basic premise is that every time you go to fret a note that is the same pitch as an open string you use the open string instead. This creates some really nice cascading runs. It’s also cool as you get some weird dissonance’s too. The idea is leave the open string ringing into the next note. (more…)
